Anne O'Brien and the Board at the Senior Center have been working on the idea of a senior center at the Creamery site for many years. I remember having conversations with Anne some years ago about what needed to be done to make the site viable. She and the board have worked hard towards this goal. I am outraged that one of the most hard working, committed, and honest legislators I have known is being trashed by the select board. Anne has worked tirelessly for Richmond residents the last 8 years, and not just in the Statehouse. From organizing volunteers to clean up after Irene, to writing a grant that gave the town the ability to get a small ferry to transport residents across the Winooski when the bridge was shut down. Anne has been involved with the Grange and a number of town committees including economic development, and she has spent the last number of years working with others to create a home for the seniors of Richmond. I have known Anne for nearly 25 years. And I see her as someone who loves Richmond, and is willing to give of her time and energy to make this community a better place. The comments made by the select board member about Anne and the Senior Center board are condescending and dismissive. Not just to them, but to all of us who have lived and worked in the Richmond community for many years.
Interesting to see that Sue Minter is essentially giving up a prestigious and powerful job and the income that goes with it, to run for Governor. Talk about risking everything. What are the other candidates giving up? Nothing.
Happy that Sue is running.
I am never comfortable when debate is limited on legislation. It feels like an abuse of power. If changes are going to be made to the bill than both sides need to be heard from. Fairly.
Had Sweet Simone's chocolate cupcakes and chocolate cream pie last week on opening day. Amazing!
Happy that she chose Richmond for her new home, and happy to hear she is doing well.
Fantastic news! Smart move by 7 days. They have hired the best reporters in the state.
I will miss Lynn 'a reporting. Personally I think having to reapply and reinterview for a job you already gave is ridiculous. Badly handled Gannett.
