Backstory: This Year’s ‘Funniest Fact-Check’ Set the Record Straight on Tit vs. Teat

Seven Days' special Dairy Issue was devoted entirely to examining the viability of Vermont's signature agricultural industry. Here the elephant in the room is the "cow in the barn." I was the lead editor on the project. The anchor story, by Kirk Kardashian, provided a historical overview as well as essential info about how the business works. It needed some color, so I inserted a quick anecdote about Fred Tuttle, the folksy dairy farmer who had starred in John O'Brien's 1996 film Man With a Plan, then actually ran for the U.S. Congress in real life as a publicity stunt to promote the movie.

Re: “Sanders Skips Key Vote on Coronavirus Rescue Package

Hi all:

As journalists, we're used to upsetting people left and right and we have pretty tough hides. We don't expect people to laud every coverage decision we make, and we're always open to criticism. But gutter attacks on staff members are off limits. Those comments will be pulled, as one on this thread was. And we may opt to suspend an abusive commenter's account. Thank you to the vast majority of our commenters who add to the conversation on sevendaysvt.com!

Re: “Burlington City Council Passes Amended Impartial Policing Policy

Hi, all:

Comments here are being turned off due to the endless sniping and the utter disregard for our rules, which clearly state that commenters should show each other courtesy. It's not complicated. You're on notice. Keep it up, I'm suspending your individual accounts.

Re: “Progressives Jolt Vermont's Top 2020 Campaigns

Hi, Jimmy:

We've added our oft-used Ashe disclosure, which somehow was left out when the story was produced online. That shouldn't have happened, and we're looking into how it occurred. I'll note that the disclosure is appended to the same story in the print copies of Seven Days in circulation today.
