Re: “Updated: Higher Ed Reporter Responds to Free Press Layoff

I'm not from Burlington and know nothing about the BFP. However, I am a bit saddended by the lack of understanding in most of your comments. It is sad when long standing institutions fail and good people who have done good work are displaced. Unfortunately, this is how the world works when new technology replaces old technology and everyone posting here is partly responsible. Would you like to give up the laptop, tablet, or smartphone that was used to read this article and post a comment? Would you like to stop getting your information from these devices? Let's ban the internet to save the newspaper! It's not hard to see the viscous cycle this has caused. News orgs give content away for free on the internet, people stop paying to have the paper delivered, people prefer news on thier device, more people stop paying to have paper delivered, loss of sales forces cost cutting and quality reduction in printed media, even more people stop paying to have the paper delivered, newspapers realize "free" is not a good business model and try to charge for internet content, too many people say nevermind, too late, plenty of other places I can get my content for free. The world changes and although it is sad we need to move on. Just remember, we now have access to global content on a real time basis. Regular people all over the world can positively impact the human condition through the power of web media. I know this may affect your ability to get a paper copy of the BFP, you will just have to get over it. BTW, I hear wagon wheel local 452 is upset about motor car and rubber tire developments.
