Florence Wanzer Beard, 95, of Johnson, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at The Manor in Morrisville, Vermont.

She was born in Fairfield, VT on April 7, 1918, the daughter of Allen and Edith Abel Wanzer. She was a resident of Johnson for 73 years.

She was a graduate of Enosburg High School, where she was Valedictorian of her senior class, and graduated from Johnson Normal School in 1938. This is where she met her husband Hubert Beard. They were married on June 30, 1940. After teaching one year in Waterville, she decided to stay home and raise her three children and work side by side with Hubert in the family Hardware store until it closed in 2007.

Florence was a member of The United Church of Johnson and the Order of the Eastern Star where she served in many capacities.

She loved growing vegetables in her yearly garden, sewing, and teaching Sunday school. She always found time to have Sunday dinner after church followed by a Sunday afternoon trip to Fairfield to visit her parents and family members.

Florence was a devoted wife to Hubert for more than 70 years and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, her two brothers, Glenford and Rubin Wanzer and a sister Avis Dodd. She is survived by two sons, Alan and wife, Judy; Bruce and his wife, Mary, both from Johnson; her daughter Carole Krikorian and husband, Edward from Marlboro, Massachusetts; Six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving, kind, and generous woman who touched many lives.

Due to family’s wishes, a special Memorial celebration and grave side gathering will be scheduled at a later date in the spring.
