Howard Paul Adams died Saturday May 17, 2008 in Burlington, Vermont. He was born November 6, 1918 in Jersey City, NJ, to Harry and Etta (Alpert) Adams. He received a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from The Cooper Union Institute of Technology in New York City in 1940. After serving in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, he returned home and married Sylvia Malin. Together they shared 62 loving and respectful years, working hard and delighting in travel all over the world. Howard was an avid reader and stamp collector, a gentle, quiet man with a sharp sense of humor; when he spoke, everyone listened. He worked as a food chemist. As manager of the research laboratory at M&M/Mars in Hackettstown, NJ, he travelled to Central and South America, Africa, and Europe, becoming an expert on cacao. In 1991 Howard and Sylvia moved to South Burlington to be near their only child Miriam Adams and her husband Roger Kohn of Hinesburg. Howard was particularly happy to be near his beloved only grandchild Nina of whom he was immensely proud. Howard is survived by Sylvia, Miriam, Roger, Nina Kohn and her husband Jeffrey Milder; also by his sister Selma Salameno of Fairlawn, NJ, brother Henry Adams of Orlando, FL, and sister Helen Weintraub of NY. Friends wishing to visit with Sylvia and her family are invited to an informal gathering at Sylvias home on Sunday, June 1 at 2 p.m. If desired, donations may be made in Howards memory to The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (30 Cooper Square, New York, NY 10003) which provided Howard with a full tuition scholarship and which continues to do the same for all their students, or to a charity of your choice. died Saturday May 17, 2008 in Burlington, Vermont.
