Obituary: Joan L’Esperance Devost

Joan L’Esperance Devost, age 61 years, died unexpectedly, Friday morning, March 18, 2016, at her Luke St. home.

She was born in St. Albans on, September 9, 1954, and attended St. Albans schools. On February 3, 1977, she was married to Norman Joseph Devost who survives her.

In addition to her responsibilities as a homemaker and mother Joan enjoyed spending time on her computer and traveling which included visiting various casinos throughout the United States.

In addition to her husband Norman, Joan leaves her father, George L’Esperance and his companion Pat of St. Albans; her mother Carol Palmer and husband Clark of St. Albans; four sons, Christopher of Swanton, Rodney and wife Rebecca of Highgate, Norman Jr., of Swanton and David and his wife Christina of Sheldon; 13 grandchildren; one great grandson; four brothers, George L’Esperance Jr., of St. Albans, Norman L’Esperance and wife Kathy of St. Albans, John L’Esperance and Companion Rob Pisani of Florida and Timothy L’Esperance of Essex; a sister, Janet Tucker and husband Rick of St. Albans; a half-brother, Steven L’Esperance of Enosburgh; a half-sister, Billie Jo of St. Albans as well as many nieces and nephews.

At Joan’s request there will be no public calling hours.

A Graveside Funeral Service and Interment will be held Thursday, March 24, 2016, at 11 a.m. from the family lot in St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery, Brosseau Road, Highgate Falls. Father Luke P. Austin will officiate.

Gifts in Joan’s memory may be made to the American Heart Fund, Vermont Affiliate, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston 05495.
