Michael Whiskers Gaston Poirier, age 58 years, died Friday afternoon September 12, 2014, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility following a sudden heart attack.
Born in Newport, Vermont on January 17, 1956, he was the son of the late Gaston and Yvette, (Dextraze), Poirier. He was a graduate of Lake Region Union High School in Orleans and on June 19, 1976, was married to the former Claire Bates who survives him.
He was a self employed mason and truck driver and will be especially remembered for the love he had for his grandchildren and his enjoyment of playing the guitar.
In addition to his wife Claire, Whiskers is survived by two children and their spouses, John and Hannah Messier of Montgomery and Theresa and Kory Stone of Highgate; grandchildren, Chelsea Messier, Ira Messier, Donald Brandon Muller, Nathan Muller and Kaylynn Stone; a great granddaughter, Shaylee Faulkner; two brothers, Alan Poirier and his wife Lori of Barton and David Poirier of Orleans as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday September 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. Father Luke P. Austin will officiate. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
