William W. Zweeres, age 92 years, a lifelong Swanton resident, died early Wednesday morning May 22, 2013, in the Saint Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Swanton on November 13, 1920, he was the son of the late Willard and Josephine (Hakey) Zweeres. He attended Swanton schools graduating from St. Anne's Academy in 1936. On January 16, 1946, he married the former Hazel Winters who predeceased him on April 23, 1983. On May 27, 1995, Bill was married to Germaine Gauthier Creller who survives him.

As a veteran of World War II, Bill served in the United States Army, Company A 360 Engineers, Ground Service Regiment in both Northern France and Rhineland. He received his honorable discharge on December 8, 1945. He was longtime member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post 1 of St. Albans and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Charles DaPrato Post 778 in Swanton.

For 26 years Bill was employed as a property clerk and parts manager for the Union Carbide Corporation of St. Albans. He was also well known throughout the area as a professional painting and wall papering contractor.

As a lifelong parishioner of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, he volunteered at the parish in many ways. He was head usher for many years and a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Edmund of Canterbury Council 7669. He and his wife Germaine were also active members of the Hi-Swans and Franklin County Senior Citizens.

In addition to his wife Germaine of Swanton, Bill leaves his daughters, Linda Brooks and her husband Norman of Greenville, NC; his sisters, Anita Honsinger of Swanton, Dorothy Gignac of St. Albans and Shirley Patterson of St. Albans Bay.

He was predeceased by six brothers, Nelson, Willard Jr., Donald, Alfred, Earl and Roy Zweeres.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday May 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father Emmanuel I. Ajanma will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment with military honors will follow at the Zweeres family lot in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.
