Re: “Swastika, Racial Slur Found in Burlington Library Bathroom

Was this found above the pile of needles that can often be found in the library bathrooms?

Also, "Donna Boutin", a swastika was drawn by people who want to look like victims? Are you joking, or are you really that dense?

Re: “Cambrian Rising: A Massive Project Advances Quietly in the Queen City

"Resigned" is the right word. Weinberger has figured out that people can't be protesting all the time.

The more big, out of scale projects his developer friends propose over the course of his mayorship, the less time residents concerned with keeping Burlington at a livable scale and not a soon-to-be Rich Person Playground can spend protesting each and every poorly conceived massive development project.

Re: “Hot Ticket: A Potentially Lively Race for Lieutenant Governor

Conventional wisdom doesn't always fly here.

Phil Scott won his governorship in a season where he had a top-of-ticket bump as well as successful pandering to centrists. His actions and inactions over the first session have turned a lot of those moderates off, and he won't be able to turn on the "aw, shucks" charm to win them back. The Dems will only have themselves to blame if they run another unelectable Burlington-Montpelier-and-back candidate.

Also, Lauzon running for Lite Gov? That little "conflict of interest" story from last month will continue to follow him if he does choose to run. The last thing we need are more members of the Good Ole Boys club who see politics in the state as an opportunity to enrich themselves and/or their family businesses.

Re: “North Avenue Bike Lane Survey Leads to Controversy

It sure sounds like the same people who crowed "the people have spoken" when the NNE voted overwhelmingly for BTC (while other, adjoining wards were more mixed or strongly against) to push the ballot passage are now claiming that these same people aren't smart enough to have their voice heard.

Stop demeaning the honest feedback of your neighbors!

Re: “Vermont Regulators OK Sale of the State's Largest Phone Company

Nothing like approving a company with a BBB "F" rating to take over for a "C-" company.

It's obvious nothing will improve here for Vermonters. 14% of revenues being invested in VT? How are the funds to be invested, and who will hold Consolidated honest? Is there any stipulation that they can't just spend all that money in Chittenden?

We are trailing the rest of the nation with our Internet connection coverage and speeds, and finding another company as barely able to keep up with their debt load as Fairpoint isn't going to help (The fairpoint debt is rated Ba3/B3; these credit ratings means they're classified as "junk bonds" or "not investment quality" or "not prime", while the overall company is rated B1: "Highly speculative, junk bonds")

Re: “Walters: Did the Governor Just Wave the White Flag?

Reading the comments, you'd think teachers and their representation were the worst thing to happen to VT since the Emerald Ash Borer.

Teachers are not the enemy of taxpayers, nor is the NEA. The enemy is a lack of uniform school funding mechanisms, declining populations, and forced consolidation by the threat of losing ones' town schools. Well-funded schools mean better-educated graduates, who can go on to improve and grow the local economy.

Phil tried his hand at being political in a half-assed way, a day (or 2.5 months) late and a dollar short. He won't get his way on this negotiation.

Re: “Magic Hat Opens Full Tasting Room With Food, and a Party

Looks like a nice redesign. Too bad about the beer, though.
