Post-rock is one of those nebulous niche genres that always spawns debate about its characteristics. Nitpicking aside, most post-rock bands are unified in their focus on non-prescriptive, emotionally resonant music. Evan Raine and Remi Russin, who comprise Burlington’s guitar- and synth-based post-rock duo Plastique Mammals, offer an assortment of interpretive, wordless jams on their brand-new debut LP, The Best Of. Though they tend toward uplifting melodies and resplendent motifs, they contrast their overall jubilation with dark and moody synth work. Plastique Mammals celebrate their album release on Thursday, January 4, at Nectar’s in Burlington. Local ambient guitarist Tom Pearo opens.
