Vermont is very lucky to have NECI. The school has sparked the growth of a whole industry in Vermont. When NECI started the fear was that it would out-compete existing restaurants, driving them out if business. The opposite has happened. Vermont is known nationally as a culinary destination, and this is thanks largely to the skills of NECI's graduates and the school's reputation. Times are challenging in higher education for both students and institutions. The cost of higher education in the US is a big problem and should be a national priority. Yes NECI is expensive, but look around, so is everything else. UVM costs well over $100,000 for in-state tuition and twice that for out-of-state.
