Here's a little fun stuff for you...

1) Have trouble waking up in the morning? Do savory smells like coffee and sizzling pork fat help you drag your sorry self out of bed?
    Everybody knows that moder coffee makers can be programmed to start dripping at a particular time of day, but inventor Matty Sallin has one-upped 'em. He's invented an alarm clock, the "wake n' bacon"  that cooks a strip of meat as you wrench yourself out of dreamland.
    His impetus for building the clock? "No one likes to wake up, especially by an alarm. This clock gentlywakes you up with the mouthwatering aroma of bacon, just like waking upon a Sunday morning to the smell of Mom cooking breakfast. Unlessyou're Jewish." Sounds like Sallin's smart AND funny!

2) Those nutritionist types are always ready to take the fun out of any occasion. As autumn rolls in, they're out in force publishing lists of high-cal (read: delicious and sensual) fall foods to avoid.
    Newsweek offers a list of eight foods to avoid, including stuffing, apple cider and mashed potatoes. Looks like Thanksgiving's going down the tubes if you listen to them. I was shocked to learn that a Starbucks venti pumpkin spice latte weighs in at 510 calories. Not shocked 'cause I've been drinking them unawares (I've only been in Starbucks twice in my life), just shocked that any beverage other than a milkshake could be so caloric. Do they make them with butter?    
    And the folks at Forbes.com suggest shunning delights such as "braised short ribs with maple glazed onions and butternut squash," which could contain as many as 1600 calories. Others on their no-no list: pecan pie and rack of lamb.
     Here's my idea...Maybe if Americans stopped chowing down greasy fast food so frequently and ceased swigging soda all day, they'd be able to enjoy the occasional plate of braised ribs. Do you really think that (much skinnier than we are ) Parisians avoid sumptuous dishes like coq au vin and tarte tatin?
    And another one: I know that we're obsessed with fashion and fitness, but has anyone considered that those fall cravings and extra few pounds we gain in the winter might just be good for us? Many of the super skinny people I know spend a lot of time being cold and uncomfortable.   
3) Eeeewwww. This dude claims he found maggots in a container of peanut clusters. Sorry, this isn't exactly something fun.
