Re: “Roe-ing Upstream: Vermont’s Lopsided Battle Over Abortion Rights

Homer Trout - in the entire United States only 1.34% of abortions are what is considered "late term abortion" (in most cases defined as after 20 weeks) and almost all of them are medically necessary. What a horrible thing to be expecting a child and find out it has a terminal or catastrophic condition. What makes you think you should insert yourself into that situation? These aren't easy decisions and yes, the loss of that child will be felt by its parents their entire lives - just like miscarriages and stillbirths are. Before you cavalierly say they should just have the baby, regardless of the length or quality of its life, be aware that caring for a severely disabled person costs millions over a lifetime and every single state has long, long waiting lines for support services. Are you going to pay? Most people simply don't have the money for 24/7 nursing, medical equipment, and ongoing specialty treatment. Are you willing to pay the taxes necessary to provide care for all those people or do you just like calling people murderers?
