Re: “Middlebury College Bristles Over Planned Forum Featuring Polish Conservative

It would seem as if the letter signers wish to demonstrate the very point that Professor Legutko makes, "that contemporary liberalism shares a trait with the communist leadership under which he grew up: a tendency to stifle free speech." They only demonstrate how little intellectual integrity they have.

Re: “Patriots Owner's Bust Calls to Mind Vermont's Asian Sex Trafficking

It is encouraging to see a greater focus on the trafficking and exploitation of the women themselves. The real criminals are the traffickers and exploiters, which include the men who pay for these "services". Thanks, Ken, for following up. Keep up the good work.

A good first step.

Re: “Defying Feds, State Offers Unemployment to Vermonters Working Without Pay

I am glad to see that Gov. Scott is doing the right thing. He should get credit for defying this illegal and immoral administration. California is also offering unemployment to the unpaid federal workers. The unemployment assistance is required to be paid back when the workers eventually get their back pay checks. The states lose nothing by doing the right thing here.

Re: “The Whole Tooth? Vermont's Head Warden Targeted for Covering His Tracks in Bear Case

I don't understand. The story says he sent it in "after the deadline" when he was notified. That seems like a minor offense that was corrected as soon as he was made aware of it. What is the big problem here?

Re: “Final Tour of St. Joseph's Orphanage Spurs Haunting Memories

My mother left the Catholic Church when her father died in 1951, when I was five years old. She told me often of the nuns in parochial school who would not brook the questions that she would ask as a small child, such as, if God is so smart, why did He create the fly. That got her a severe reprimand which her father responded to by threatening to cut off his support if they ever treated her that way again. What she objected to was a church which would not allow you to question authority and which threatened children with hellfire and told them that they were evil. As a result, I was raised with my brother and sisters in the Universalist Church, which taught tolerance and encouraged understanding and questioning. Everything that I have read about St. Joseph's Orphanage sounds like this ignorant and authoritarian church that my mother left and never returned to.
