Re: “Blue Paddle Bistro

Ate there last night...still surprised after all these years at how popular this restaurant is. Only surprised because we arrived at 5 pm and requested a table on the first floor, they were all booked. However everyone was most gracious and decided to give us a table that was reserved for 6:30:hoping we would not need more time than that. Since it is a ride for us from South South Burlington we go there in the summer. The food was excellent the service superb, and one of the partners was running around doing everything, including very personally thanking people like us who are not regular customers for coming in.
Who could ask for anything more?

Re: “Locked In: Contract Guarantees Inmates Get Sent Out of Vermont

Prison bad freedom good....who could argue with that... the people who end up in prison have somehow transgressed against some of us...should there be no punishment for them and should the victims turn the other cheek?
We can't hardly educate our children in our schools, how can we set up prisons that will educate our offenders, do they really want to be educated?
Unfortunately we are not Sweden, there is no comparison, the US tax payer would never want to pay what the Swedes pay in taxes. Because of the high taxation they can provide a great life for all their citizens.

Re: “South Burlington School Board Won't Put 'Rebels' Question on Ballot

I have lived in Vermont for over 60 years, when it was exotic to be a different color. For the life of me I don't understand why people of color move here and keep telling us we are racist and ignorant. Was wherever they came from free of racism and ignorance? In which case they should go back.
Take my word for it changing a school's moniker will make no difference in racism ignorance or inclusivity. We are trying to protect our children of color from that dreadful rebel name. How are they protected when they step out into real life.

Re: “Migrant Justice Advocate Accepts 'Voluntary Departure' to Mexico

When did it become alright to let undocumented people enter the United States and ignore their status. I guess when employers decided these people would work cheap and keep their heads low. The Mexican/Central Americans are not the only undocumented people in this country. From what I have been reading there are numerous Chinese, and Asians maybe not as many as the Hispanics but a great number in the US as undocumented. They enter the country legally on a three month Visa, after the Visa expires, they melt into the diaspora..

Re: “Freshmen Revolt: Why Did 16 Democrats Break With Their Party?

For years all we have gotten from our legislatures and our governors is lip service to the NEA. After all the NEA pours plenty of money into election and reelection of these people. More and more young people are leaving Vermont because it is unaffordable, we are a state of old people overwhelmed by taxes. The primary culprit is the property taxes directly driven by teachers' salaries and benefits.

I agree Gov Scott was elected to send a message, but is anyone listening.

Re: “House Dems Narrowly Win Vote On Teacher Health Care Negotiations

The way we pay for education is absolutely out of hand. I find the elitist attitude that because South Burlington is special, then the teachers are special they should not have a cap on their salaries and of course their health care should be free. I would much rather see a fair system where teachers salaries and health care is uniformly handled, let Winnossi teachers have the same salary and health benefits as South Burlington. For this to happen we unfortunately need the government to step in. It is ridiculous in such a small state to have all these school systems negotiating salaries and benefits year after year and facing the disruption of teachers going on strike.
Remember compared to other professions in Vermont our teachers have great salaries , and fabulous benefits, and they only work part time. What other profession has those perks.

Re: “Lisman Buys Ads Promoting Scott's Health Insurance Proposal

Don't get too excited people you do know that our spending on teachers salaries and specially their health care is unsustainable. In what other profession would you get huge salaries and health benefits as teachers do in South Burlington and work for a fraction of the year?
Wouldn't it more fair if in a state that works on fairness, if we had a more uniform structure for teacher pay and health care? So that the teacher in Winooski can do as well as the one in South Burlington, or are we too elitist for that.

Re: “A Divided South Burlington Tries to Unite With Two Separate Events

The duelling rallies were just that...they were not uniting events. Black Lives matters wants to dictate to South Burlington and the Rebels are not buying it. The community really cares put it up to a vote and let the losers accept the will of the people of South Burlington.
