Re: “Over Objections, Burlington School Board Approves Principal Hire

Oh wow - how lucky those students & families to get Ms. Whitmore-Sells! She is a brilliant educator with tremendous heart and compassion! I worked at SA when she worked at the central district office and she always made time to meet with students & their families to ensure that students' needs were met. The kids win here.

I am sad to hear that the former principal Mr. Williams had to leave without warning, but I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their privacy. What strikes me as odd however, is that he gets to walk right into his old teaching position at the high school, even after a hiatus of all those years serving as principal. And he walks right back in while a beloved former BHS English teacher (& award-winning poet) with a continuous record of his devotion to sparking youth's creativity in thinking and writing, is completely overlooked. Ah yes, the leadership at Burlington High School makes its own decisions without board or community input, and they are looking for a successor. Let me guess, Mr. Williams? Ah, to be part of the old boys network - what must that be like?
And LOL - someone is "weary of hearing about race and white privilege in the district." LOL LOL LOL Can you imagine if they were a person of color? My heart goes out to all of the remaining staff of color at that district.
