Re: “Passhole or Persecuted? Snowboarder Decries Lifetime Ban From Stowe Mountain

Moral of the story...there are real world consequences for being an uber-douche. They should really issue a refund for his pass, but they're well within their right to tell him that they don't want him on any of their properties worldwide.

Instead of crying to the local newspapers about being told he's not wanted, maybe Dionne ought to take a little bit of time to reflect on what it was that he did that got him banned for life, and try to avoid acting like that in the future. There's probably a lot more to the story than Dionne is telling Seven Days, but frankly, lashing out at the staff in the manner he did is grounds enough to revoke his pass anyway. Act like an adult, instead of a spoiled 15-year old. Or at the very least, quit crying about it.

Re: “Bagpipes, Speeches and Drive-By Protesters Mark the Raising of New Trump Flag

Freedom of speech doesn't give you the right of speech to say or express whatever you want consequence free. If Klein wants to hang that flag in his yard, he's free to do so. Nobody has the right to vandalize it or his property, and the government can't arrest him for it. That's what the constitution protects (along with other basic rights).

What the constitution doesn't do is protect him from criticism or shaming by other members of the community. The people driving by shouting? They were all well within their legal right to do so if they weren't violating any other laws. The people on here making fun of him? All well within their rights. If his private sector employer (don't know if he's employed) doesn't like the negative PR this story is bringing their business, they're well within their rights to fire him.

Freedom of speech isn't carte blanche to say or do whatever you want. People should really brush up on what the constitution actually protects before they start complaining about peoples' freedoms being upheld. He can exercise his freedom of speech to show that he's willing to tolerate a racist piece of trash lying about everything he mentions, and we can exercise our freedom of speech to make fun of him.

What's Klein's big sales pitch for his campaign...a big wall on the Winooski border?

I bet more than 50% of the snow in that yard is yellow for most of the winter

Re: “Political Maneuvering Sidetracks a Plan for Permit Reform in Burlington

The city of Burlington is over-regulated? Shocking. And we wonder why the idea of living in town holds so little appeal to anyone over 30.

Re: “Winooski Green Card Holder Faces Deportation for Pot Conviction

The guy got picked up and convicted for driving around with 6 pounds of pot, and then several years later got picked up for beating up a kid and stealing his iPad and wallet. Then he gets convicted for pot possession again, and we're supposed to feel bad that he's getting deported?

Look, the federal government is treating an awful lot of people very, very poorly because of the big orange muppet in charge. Deporting people with multiple drug convictions and arrests for violent crime isn't something I'm going to lose any sleep over, though. He got awfully lucky when he avoided being deported after his felony conviction, he got even luckier when he and his buddy got away with assault (btw, his buddy is currently in jail for stabbing someone), but when he was still clearly not worried about the law (regardless of how you feel about pot, it was still illegal at the time), it's probably time for him to go.

As an aside, was Gadue's informing customers that they were sending a convicted felon with an arrest for assault into their homes? My guess would be that they weren't, which is pretty sketchy.

Re: “Five-Story Hotel Proposed for Williston Road in South Burlington

Exactly, Oracle. The state pays Larkin hundreds of thousands of dollars every year to let low income individuals stay in their hotels (not for more than 27 days though, when they'd all of a sudden have residency). Have a hotel that's so run down nobody in their right mind would pay to stay there? Just tell the state they can use the rooms as emergency housing, and see it booked up 100% of the time. Why make needed upgrades when you can just take advantage of the state government instead?
