Re: “Tall Mall Looms Over Central District Council Race

Just remember, Jane Knodell is a "lifelong Progressive" who voted FOR the basing of the F-35 at BIA without proper legal or environmental review and participated in the stonewalling of dissent. I guess her Progressive values don't apply to working-class families in Winooski and South Burlington.

Re: “Starting Over: First Steps for Refugees in Vermont

Great comic! I would love to 7D run a regular cartoon strip from a New American's point of view.

Re: “New Performance Venue Planned in Thriving Downtown Winooski

I live a block from the proposed venue. You can park in my driveway for $20.

Re: “Developer Gets Permit for 232 Burlington Apartments, Offers Parkland

This housing is being built on a street with no bus service, no bike lanes, and a sidewalk that dead-ends in the middle of nowhere. What's more, Burlington has quietly shelved plans to re-do the complete disarray at the Riverside/Colchester Ave intersection by the Winooski Bridge. I don't know how Burlington can realistically bill itself as a walkable/bikeable urban community when it allows for this kind of suburban sprawl with zero new transportation infrastructure.
'Donating' six acres of undevelopable land to WVPD doesn't make SD Ireland good corporate citizens, it makes them savvy developers by reducing their property tax burden and passing the cost of maintaining these lands due to increased development along to the taxpayer.
I am generally pro-infill and think building up Burlington's tax base is necessary, but this project is just ridiculously short on positives. Enjoy your commute everyone!

Re: “Centrist Lawmakers Pitch New Health Exchange Option

What kind of contractural obligations does the State have with Optum? How much would we be on the hook for if we dump them in favor if the federal marketplace? And what does the possibility of a GOP takeover of the White House mean for funding for these projects? Hopefully folks in Montpelier are looking at long-term risks to a functioning health marketplace.
That said, the current level of disfunction in VHC is appalling. As if the working class didn't have enough to worry about . . .

Re: “Alice Eats: MLC Bakeshop

Nice review. But you forgot to mention the amazing counter staff at MLC Bakeshop. They are warm, friendly, attentive, knowledgable and prompt. Anyone tired of a 'too cool for school' attitude toward counter service should take a trip to Winooski to see how the professionals do it.
