It's not "found" footage. It doesn't claim to be based on true events or say that the police department found the video after everyone died. There were even big blood red title cards throughout. Clearly they weren't going for grounded realism. And dull filmmaking? From where I was sitting the entire audience was very much into the movie, laughing and gasping and even cheering at times. But you're right, let's be offended for old people now because the grandparents in this movie (who are RAGING PSYCHOPATHS) are portrayed in a comedic fashion. Shame on you, M. Night. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch No Escape, a movie that demonizes all Asians and sympathizes with the poor white family. Now THAT'S tasteful filmmaking.
