Re: “Yangser Dorjee’s Himalaya Restaurant

Himalaya is a great new lunch spot for the downtown crowd. It is spacious with views of the water (if you look beyond the old warehouse-type buildings), and there is plenty of seating to go around. I had a combination of 6 momo, two of each variety (beef, chicken, and vegetarian). They were just the right mix of savory and spicy, and the red sauce that accompanied them added a wonderful zing. The service was fast and attentive, and it was easy to get in and out within an hour and get back to the office (although I'm sure a more leisurely meal would have been possible). To sum up: 5 stars!

Re: “This Old Zoning Dispute: Duplex to Be Built After Years-Long Battle

City denies application to demolish property, later orders property to be demolished. Burlington planning and zoning in a nutshell.

Re: “Man's Death Following Fight With Burlington Cop Ruled Homicide

Important context: Homicide means death caused by another person. It doesn't say anything about whether the person who caused the death did anything wrong. That is not to say that Officer Campbell did not do anything wrong, just that this report doesn't give us any more information about that.

Re: “House of Landlords: Property-Owning Senators Mull Tenant Protections

Sen. White's rule makes sense if you think about this in a broader context. If ANY personal stake in legislation is a conflict of interest, any car-driving legislator would be conflicted out of voting on a higher gasoline tax or imposing more onerous inspection requirements (maybe only Curt McCormack could vote!) Only men could vote on abortion access legislation. Farmers would be conflicted out of voting on most agriculture bills. Only teetotaling legislators would have the power to bring back happy hour! And on a really basic level, it would impact just about all tax policy for every legislative body in the country, because the legislative class is, by and large, across the board going to be in higher tax brackets than most of their constituents.

Re: “Resident Alleges Burlington City Council Violated Open Meeting Law

So...is there any requirement in Vermont's open meeting law that supporting materials be publicly available AT ALL prior to the meeting ? Pretty sure the answer is no. Maybe ask the SOS or VLCT that question.

Re: “Fire Consumes a Tesla Model X on Iced-Over Shelburne Bay

"The man had gotten a ride to shore by the time police and firefighters spoke with him, according to Ouimet." That's weird. Your car is on fire and you're gonna leave the scene before emergency responders get there?

Re: “Opponents to Appeal Burlington Telecom Sale Decision

If these folks weren't so militantly pro-KBTL despite its obvious shortcomings, the City likely would have sold to Ting. The Schurtz deal is the direct result of irrational support for KBTL that deadlocked the Council. This is the bed you made, so don't complain about sleeping in it.

Re: “Vermont Attorney General Wants a Regulated Weed Market

A refreshing dose of realism from a pragmatic AG.
