Re: “Weinberger Courts Donors to Boost United Way Relief Fund

Just because the rooster crows at dawn doesn't mean he makes the sun come up.
But boy-o- boy can this rooster crow.!

Re: “Redacted: How the City of Burlington Keeps the Public in the Dark

The mayor may have a small point when he expresses his concern about being able to get advice from people in confidence so that he can make the right decision. Maybe. But what about those he confided with in order to make the wrong decision i.e. his decision to lie about placing the police chief on administrative leave, when he never actually did? Are lies and rheir sources protected? Honest advice given in confidence may be exempt from the FOA, but I doubt that dishonest advice is.

Re: “To the Rescue? Burlington Wants Money for EMTs in Year of Big Tax Increases

With a little restructuring, the NNE could have improved EMT services and the city could save money. Fire station #3 on Mansfield Ave should be closed. This station is old and antiquated and does not have an amulance. It's staff should be reassigned to the new ambulance at station #4. No new staff would be required and the money saved by closing station #3 would fund the new ambulance. This proposed tax increase is totally unnecessary. I suspect that it's real purpose is the optics around election time.

Re: “Burlington Announces Scaled-Down District Energy Plan

If this project goes forward it will mean that Burlington will continue to operate the single largest source of green house gas production in Vermont for the foreseeable future. Burning wood in an electrical power plant with an efficiency of less than 30% is probably the worst option for the future carbon footprint of our city.. Anything that relies on this electrical power i.e. electric vehicles or waste heat, are not part of any solution to our CO2 problem.

Re: “Burlington Council Votes Against Reinvesting in Burlington Telecom

Yeah. Maybe now the taxpayers and ratepayers can get some of the $23 million we put into this project back and avoid the tax increase that the mayor is pushing. The decision of the council not to invest is not shortsighted. The decision to sell BT is what will prove to have been very shortsighted and a gigantic ripoff of the taxpayers and ratepayers..

Re: “Burlington Deputy Chief Wright Resigns Following Firestorm Over Social Media

Now that we have our scapegoat conveniently out of the way, the mayor thinks he can complete his white wash of this whole matter, especially his role in the coverup. I think he's got the optics wrong on this one. It's like Shumlin's land deal. It will haunt his credibility until he's gone. And he will be soon enough.

Re: “New Details Lead Some to Question Probe of Burlington Deputy Police Chief

What did we expect when the rogues gallery of Weinberger, Blackwod and Paluda, the trio who covered up the chief's internet activity, assigned themselves to investigate this matter? Who could ever magine that it might not be a good idea? To borrow the phrase from another excellant commenter, " another rake stepped on." They still have a year left and be assured they've got plenty of rakes.
