Compare the two photos 7 days chose to run with this piece
That about says it all
They are in bed with the establishment faux progressive dinosaur
(how much did she spend in advertising in 7 days in the last few weeks?)
dinosaur jane gets a nice powerful smiling shot with supporters in cheering adoration around her
The other gets a shot where she looks like this weirdo, bizarre, deranged harpy Shame on you 7 days - an appalling use of photos to editorialize
So unsubtle and not cool
Btw, Jane the fake progressive, should be ashamed and embarrassed that she barely won this entrenched dinosaur barely eked out a victory -
How much did she spend how much did all those ads in last weeks 7 days cost her?
How much did her developer friends contribute and she BARELY won
Why not some term limits for the dinosaur fake progressive councilor for life
Paul, This is a bizarre hagiography. Sure, you found a few folks to give you a few negative comments but the overwhelming message is how terrific he is.
The worst part was your justifying the coverage of your boss' partner. The partner of the woman who co-owns this newspaper, is featured on the front page of the newspaper and you tell us that his coverage is still somehow less than his peers? I call BS.
Although I do recall a cover story on Donavan I cant think of a cover story on Johnson, Hoff, Zuckerman, or any of the others waiting in the wings for the top jobs to open up. If there were cover stories on these folks were they equally laudatory? I doubt it.
And, btw, your conflict policy is worthless. The co-owner reads the stories you write, whether she assigns or edits them is not the point - do you mean to tell me that if you went after him or his policies that somehow she would not notice or that there wouldnt be some sort of subtle repercussions? again, doubt it.
Again in this piece 7 days soft sells his employment/income picture. Ok so hes an adjunct when hes not in Mont P, got that. Left unsaid is how exactly is that a livable wage? Adjuncts make around $3000 a class. How much does he make from this more or less? How much from the senate? I bet the total is not even 30K a year. He/they live in a nice home overlooking the lake. Is she paying the bills? If so, that is newsworthy. If she is paying his bills, you wrote a big long piece on him and somehow that news is not news? Please stop pulling punches.
JK needs to be ousted.
She is long past her expire date.
She is a dinosaur.
What she is not, despite her claims, is a progressive.
Progressives do not support giving multi-millionaire real estate developers special zoning variances and tax giveaways so that they can make even more money - and foist an out of scale behemoth on the city -
she and the rest of the mayor-developer's enablers need to be ousted
Weinberger has been an unmitigated disaster.
A few nuggets of his truly abysmal record:
1. He wants to finish the highway on the waterfront. All over this country, forward-looking cities are looking for ways to get rid of waterfront highways. Not Miro. He wants to actually build one!
2. He wants to rebuild a mall. I guess he didn't get the message that everyone else has gotten: malls are late-20th century dinosaurs. They don't work in this era.
3. He didn't lift a finger to stop the largest parcel of undeveloped waterfront land in the city from being turned into a sea of condos.
4. The Burlington telephone give away. BT is a multiple jewel. Plenty of cities would love to have a city-owned telecom company and free themselves of the telecom monopolies. He didn't have to give it away to fix it; but he did. Residents will pay.
His actions on the mall alone should be enough get rid of him. A special zoning variance for an out of state real estate millionaire. Miro the developer never met a development he didn't like.
The worst of it? All of his bad actions will be impossible to reverse:
The undeveloped land on the waterfront. Gone. Never coming back.
The city owned telecom company? Gone. Welcome to corporate control of the internet, Burlington.
The 14 story behemoth? It will be there when you die.
Ditto on the highway on the waterfront.
Miro Weinbeger will go down as the worst mayor the city of Burlington has ever seen.
Thanks Dem establishment who put him there. Special thanks to entrenched, out of touch, dinosaur progressive who aren't doing their jobs. You have enabled him. Your legacy is also now colored.
Molly, leaving out the price really takes away from the story. it's what everyone who reads this wants to know. it's the elephant in the room. so what if she wont tell you. how about you do a little investigating and give us a ball-park range for what this would cost. she has a company- does she list prices? If not, interview some folks in the industry who can give you an estimate for couture children's clothing. it is lazy reporting to not give us the price or try and find it out
This article would have been much more interesting/informative if she'd have explained why they lost. what did the opinion say? One court said this punishment was too harsh but the SC said otherwise.
Can't she interview people to help us understand this?
Re the SC decision: What was the vote? Who voted for and against? was there a dissent? The article doesn't tell us anything much about the decision (which is the heart of the story). Who edited this?
This is another example of kind of lazy, half-baked 7 days reporting. Here's the article summary: restate the legal history and interview people who are going to lose their homes.
How about a little explanation for what seems like an extraordinary ruling.
Also, why were they forced to sell back their stake in the property that they had purchased legally? another unanswered question.
Alicia, next time, please interview a few lawyers, or legal minds and maybe read the decision.
ate there recently - pleasant room - good service
food was OK to meh
the refried beans were tasty - as mentioned above -perhaps the best part of the meal
the fish tacos- nice amount of fish - but as stated above - kinda flavorless
skip the pupusas - bland, fried - a major disappointment - thought they would be excellent - sounded like arepas - they arent - these were pretty awful and sat in my tummy like a lead balloon
want this place to be better - hope to try it again
ps - do not go by the review of the food writer in training that 7 days employs- hannah - she is absurd
