The conventional justification for ever accelerating executive pay is that one has to pay more for highly talented and visionary managers. The assumption that doing so results in greater value creation in the organization. In the for-profit world, this translates into greater profit over time, in the non-profit world it should translate into a greater achievement of mission.
I'm puzzled why we've still got all the problems we've had before, plus greater economic inequity.
