Re: “Walters: Scott, Hallquist Draw Clear Contrasts in Second Debate

Universal health care is not affordable for the working people of Vermont. Someone has to pay for those who don't want to work. Increasing the minimum wage to $15 per hour will increase cost to businesses. There in is the trickle down affect where businesses will raise prices or cut staff to pay the higher wages. We all can't be like the electric coop and raise prices. We all know that the coop has high electric rates so I would use that as a comparison of what she is modeling.

Re: “Burlington Voters Will Consider $100 Million in School, Wastewater Bonds

tax increases by 2028 going to be $550, that's based on a 250K house. Not many of those in Burlington. Don't forget to add the annual increase the school dept brings to the table. Your property tax increases over the past decade are primarily from the school taxes. The general city tax has not increased in years. Th Burlington schools are a expensive broken system and will only continue to get worse. Throwing more money at a broken system just makes it an expensive broken system.

Re: “Burlington Voters Will Consider $100 Million in School, Wastewater Bonds

I love how misinformed people want to blame the mayor for the lack of up keep to the systems within the city. This has been something in the making for years and now it comes to a head. I don't like the increases any more than anyone else but no one has come up with a different solution to the fix. I just hope the city uses the money wisely because I am not sure whether the city can continue to borrow. With these two new bond proposals the bond debt will be over $200 mil.

Re: “Meet the 14-Year-Old Running for Vermont Governor

That's cute. He could spend the next four years educating himself on politics. At least then he will be old enough to vote for himself.

Re: “Making a Stink: Man Protests Burlington's Wastewater Dumps

lake Champlain has approx. 6.8 TRILLION gallons of water. the water that came from the treatment plant was not raw sewage but partially treated. This is not uncommon for any community in Vermont who has a treatment plant that there are over flows and have been for years. Until the 1950's there was no treatment plant and yet the lake was not polluted in the same manner. Science has proven the pollution in the lake is from chemicals like fertilizer, not human waste. The lake is a constant ebb and flow of moving waters. People worry about poop in the lake but can't find a turd in the sand anywhere, so educate yourselves on the real problem of the lake. As with any aging structure there will come a time for a major overhaul, it's just a question of when.

Re: “Burlington Considers Upgrading Its High School — for $70 Million

The schools do need an upgrade. To the tune of $70 mil, maybe, maybe not. A big issue for me is that the school board is not bringing forth a final plan for people to make an educated decision. Every year the tax payers are asked to vote on another bond. At some point there has to be head way, at least for the people who are paying the bill. My concern is without a final plan then this could easily balloon to more than the 70 mil.

Re: “UVM Medical Center Nurses to Return to Work Saturday

There has to be more to this than a 24% raise. What are the other demands? I do agree with the hospital that 24% is not realistic. Even the 13% over 3 years is far more than most will get.
