The King and I (1956) back to cinemas nationwide for a 60th anniversary celebration on Sunday, August 28 and Wednesday, August 31. This beloved classic will be accompanied by special commentary from TCM hosts Robert Osborne or Ben Mankiewicz, who will provide insight, background and more, making this film come alive. Winner of 5 ACADEMY AWARDS®, Rodgers & Hammerstein's® regal classic tells the true story of Anna Leonowens (Deborah Kerr), an English widow who travels to Siam in 1862 to serve as governess to the King's (Yul Brynner) children. She soon finds herself at odds with the stubborn monarch, but after "getting to know" each other, Anna and the King ultimately develop an extraordinary friendship that surprises them both.
