Re: “Jake Burton Carpenter, Father of Snowboarding, Dies at 65

He brought snowboarding into our lives, and in so doing he changed my life in a most positive way. He did that for millions of people the world over. Hey, I'm super thankful to have been sliding on this planet at the same time as Jake!

Re: “Analysis: How Gun Votes Divided the Vermont House

That's a really interesting and helpful analysis. Thanks for taking the time to compile all that data. Apart from the underlying gun issues, it's interesting to note that the Progressives tended to track Democrats (which is very logical and expected), while Independents tended to track Republicans. That seems like the way the voting has been going overall, but it was interesting to see it presented so clearly, and helps clarify that in at least a few cases Independents are really just Republicans who won't carry that label in their districts.

Re: “Run, Baby, Run: Young Bernie Backers Become Candidates

It’s a shame that some of the Vermont convention delegates, including Ashley Andreas, skipped the Hillary Clinton sponsored unity meeting. Bernie Sanders would be the best candidate, and he won the overwhelming majority of Vermont votes, but unless something extraordinary happens, he won’t be the nominee. Hillary Clinton has many more delegates to the Democratic National Convention, and more supporters within party leadership. If the newcomers want to have any clout at the convention they need to win the support of the Hillary delegates. Skipping out on unity at this juncture weakens their power and will lessen their success. The same will apply if these young candidates win seats in the legislature. They can’t change the system alone, and would do well to begin building partnerships with established legislators now. Unfortunately the newcomers view unity as ‘selling out,’ rather than as a means of building support for their causes.
