Re: “'Incoherent' Rifle-Wielding Man Posed Dilemma for Police

VCTS -- here's the sound of a Cricket : background checks are not bullet-proof (pun intended). Most high-profile mass shooters CLEARED the NICs system. ( The Orlando shooter passed a complete FBI "BI" to be certified to work for G4S as a Security Guard on Federal properties.) In this particular case , the man was a felon (NH) , and would not be permitted to buy a firearm from an FFL. So, I would surmise that he did not purchase this firearm legally. My guess is that it's stolen. I'm willing to wait for the facts to be published. BPD deserves a big pat on the back for diligently following the law. Now , if we can only get the Feds to follow the law and send him to the Federal Penitentiary for 5 years -- that's the proscribed penalty for a prohibited person found to be in possession of a firearm.

Re: “The Vermont Mayors Coalition Calls for Universal Background Checks

I'd like to point out that the person that did the shooting in Orlando passed the NICs check and MORE -- he had a FULL background investigation, so he could work for a security contractor hired by the Government. None of the gun control proposals being discussed would prevent a mass homicide. If you'd like to take this off into fairy-tale land -- most of the recent mass murders have been committed by people registered to vote as Democrats. Should we ban Democrats ? No , obviously, but the ball was dropped here by the government , not the community of law-abiding gun owners. On any given day, 99.999% of the 300-million-plus firearms in this country hurt NO ONE.

Re: “House Panel Smacks Down Burlington Gun Rules

We are a representative republic -- not a democracy. In a democracy, the majority can vote your rights away. That pesky old Constitution gets in the way of the Progressive agenda once again.
