Vermont Army National Guard

Published October 15, 2008 at 3:27 p.m.

The Army National Guard is an elite group of warriors who dedicate a portion of its time to serving the nation. Each state has its own Guard, as required by the Constitution. Paid job training, education and education benefits, adventure, money and service to country are just some of the reasons individuals join. Nearly 400 years ago, the Guard mobilized for the first time to help neighbors in times of need, and this is still our main role: helping the community during natural disasters and civil emergencies. The National Guard also supports the nation’s strategy during peacetime, contingencies and war.
