Re: “Monty's Old Brick Tavern

Just Okay
My husband and I decided to try Monty's for dinner on a Sunday night around 7pm after seeing a movie in Williston. We live in Essex, so it was a convenient location on our way home, which was a plus. However, the food was just "okay" and there was really nothing on the menu that grabbed me. I am a pretty "health conscious" person, and there weren't a ton of options on the menu for my liking (lots of cheese, pesto, etc.). I was also surprised by the lack of variety on the menu. My husband and I both decided to get one of the "upscale" seafood meals. The fish was great, but the sides left something to be desired. My husbands creamed spinach and potato cake were somewhat bland, my 2 fingerling potatoes and eggplant definitely weren't very filling (I am not a fan of eggplant to begin with, but it came with the meal and like I said above, there weren't a ton of options that I was interested in). Even the bread they give you to start was bland (it didn't taste overly fresh and it just had no flavor). Moreover, I think the drinking glasses were a little dirty. The setting itself is quite quaint which I enjoyed, however the decor (or lack there of) leaves something to be desired. There are very cute pictures of the dog "Monty" in the bathrooms, but there were no pictures in the dining area. I think putting some nice pictures of Monty and Vermont in the dining area would add a little something. We sat in the dining area and did not experience the bar, but that area of the restaurant seemed nice; small, but nice. My rating above is a three, but really it is more like a 2.5. We may give the place another shot down the road, if it is still around. Food: 3 Ambiance: 3 Service: 3
