Re: “Madera's Restaurante Mexicano Cantina

fried fish
I was at Madera's a few nights ago. I was a customer there several times when it was Roques, never had any issue. This time, I ordered a Tilapia dish. It said the fish was fresh medallions sauteed in a dry red pepper sauce. When I got the fish, it was fried, appeared to be breaded...overall everything in the dish was greasy and heavy. It wasn't at all what I'd anticipated. When I asked the waiter why it was fried/breaded, he went to ask the owner, who responded that it was "lightly dusted in flour to prevent it from drying out." Regardless, I ate a bit of the rice, and that was it. I was hoping for a dish that actually had "fresh medallions of tilapia." The whole crispy fried part they failed to leave out in the menu. I was disappointed that the waiter didn't offer to have my dish remade. When he gave us the bill he was nervous and hesitant, and apologized for any confusion. He was nice enough, but definitely did not go out of his way to make sure I was comfortable with what I was eating. In my opinion, they should have footed the bill. I paid $16 for some average rice and a basket of tortilla chips. I'll probably go back again because I like the atmosphere and the chips & drinks are good. But I'll be sure to clarify thoroughly before I trust that sautee doesn't actually mean fried. Food: 2 Ambiance: 3 Service: 2
