Tomorrow morning, I'm headed to ECHO on the Burlington Waterfront to talk about social media on the Mark Johnson show. Why? Because Mark is also talking about this awesome project called Voices from The Lake, an initiative that aims "to inspire Champlain Basin stewardship through conversations & connections enabled by social technologies like Facebook and YouTube." Cool, huh? I'm on with Candy Page from the Burlington Free Press, and blogger Bill Simmon, among others.
Not sure how this escaped my notice, but apparently ECHO has a kiosk that allows visitors to record short videos about why they love Lake Champlain. The videos are then uploaded to YouTube. They've got 47 vids up now (including this adorable specimen). Voices for the Lake manager Bridget Butler says she's taking the show on the road this summer, visiting other parts of the watershed to record more stories. The goal, of course, is to use these to make us think twice about things like dumping buckets of paint down the storm drain.
Will it work? Hard to say. But some of these videos are so darn cute.
Tune in to WDEV tomorrow at 9 a.m. to listen (AM 550, FM 96.1) to the Mark Johnson show, or click here to stream it online.
