Starting this Wednesday, September 16, Misery Loves Co. at 46 Main Street in Winooski will expand its kitchen hours until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. It will offer counter service for seated dining of plated soups, salad, sandwiches and an afternoon-into-evening menu of revolving “lite fare,” along with drinks.
Chef and co-owner Aaron Josinsky said the vibe is “very casual, [like] going to a friend’s house.” Customers can order “snacks and a drink, or snacks and a bottle of something nice and some more substantial food.”
Josinsky and his team quietly launched the new small-plates menu, served 3 to 7 p.m., a few weeks ago on Fridays and Saturdays. The roster will change weekly. So far, it has featured dishes such as cannelloni with grilled peppers, zucchini and ricotta; a beet, peach and burrata salad; and cast-iron-skillet meatballs with red sauce and mozzarella.

Fans of Plainfield’s long-closed landmark River Run Restaurant can once again indulge in its classics, such as jambalaya and biscuits with gravy, at periodic Sunday-morning pop-ups by its former chef-owner, Jimmy Kennedy, at the Haybarn Restaurant & Lounge on the Creative Campus at Goddard.
After a test run in late August, the next breakfast buffet will be October 4, 7 to 11 a.m. The meal costs $27.50 per person, including tip. Kennedy said he “really, really wanted to do breakfast again for the community.” As his busy summer schedule at JDK Catering eases, he hopes to offer his Southern fare plus other River Run faves, such as buttermilk pancakes and veggie scramble, twice a month through the winter. According to a social media announcement, Chico’s Tacos & Bar has closed permanently in Montpelier after less than a year in operation at 45 State Street. Before its Capital City incarnation, chef-owner Andrew Lay ran his Southern California-style Mexican restaurant for nine months in Middlesex, across from Camp Meade.
Chico’s menu featured big portions of overstuffed burritos, cornmeal-crusted Baja fish tacos, and barbacoa made with slow-cooked short rib and beef tongue. In August 2025, Lay told Seven Days that the larger Montpelier space suited his goal to “be not just a restaurant but a hangout, too.” He did not respond to a request for comment on the closure.
