Every Friday, the students at Champlain Elementary School learn about vegetables, herbs and flowers in the Fresh Garden with Miss Christine of the Burlington School Food Project. Eva visited their blooming Burlington garden last Friday to see the 5th grade class pick buckets of basil and kale which was then brought to Chef Kaye. The kids will eventually eat their harvest during school lunch as pesto and kale chips. Kindergarteners dug in the dirt, chose their favorite flower to bring home and tasted some herbs. Later in the evening, students and their families celebrated their Harvest Festival which included eating pizza with toppings from the Fresh Garden and drinking lemonade with mint that the youth picked.
