In Waitsfield, Phantom closed its doors last week. The eclectic locavore restaurant opened last winter in the Mad River Green, building on the success of a pop-up dinner and music series by the same name. (The like-named food truck has also been sold.) Chef-co-owner Matt Sargent announced the closure in a lengthy Facebook post.
“With fantastic music, food as good as we could make it, an unbelievably cool crew and patrons that completely rocked,” Sargent wrote, Phantom was a “true joy to be a part of.” He cited “purely financial reasons” for the closure. In a follow-up post, he promised to return soon: “Somehow, some way, I’ll keep getting food in front of folks. I can’t help myself.” Fans will have to wait with bated breath until the Phantom flies again.
