James D. Myers, 94, of Burlington Vt., passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. Born on January 18, 1931, at home in Manheim, Pa. James was the son of the late Paul and Erla (Ritter) Myers. He was predeceased by two older siblings, Barry L. Myers and Nancy L. Tavella, both from Manheim, Pa.

James never married, though his outgoing, loving and generous personality was loved by all. He was treasured as a father figure, a friend, a confidante and a creative inspiration.

James is survived by five nephews, three nieces, seven great-nephews and two great-nieces, with whom he shared his talents and experiences. He took them on vacation and hiking through the woods, showed them New York City and gifted them with elaborate gifts and plenty of love.

After graduating from Manheim Central High School, James enlisted in the Army, serving two years in Germany. His time abroad introduced him to the beauty of Europe and instilled a love for travel. His travels took him to Italy, France, Africa, Spain and throughout the United States. He learned the cultures and studied the art of the people and returned with artifacts and style that set his home’s interior far above the norm.

He was a caregiver to animals of his own and those of others. His art talent had taken on different forms throughout his life, from restoring old trunks, to basket weaving and even a small business he shared with his lady love, Ms. Irene Woodard. Together they designed and created the Woodmyer Mouse Collection: miniature costumed mice of every category, selling them to Trapp Family Lodge, at street fairs and in shops.

Irene’s family — the Woodards, Smiths and Maxsons — became a large part of James’ life. Her loving children, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and more welcomed him into their lives, making him an honorary member of their clan. His close and very supportive friends, Linda Lamb and Bruce Erwin, were there to share the good times and offered never-ending help in his health decline. He also leaves behind his caring friends at Fern Hill — where James resided for more than 30 years — and his close friend, Marie Claire Ryan.

James’ ashes will be interred in the spring of 2026 at the family plot in Manheim, Pa. A memorial service in Burlington, Vt., will be announced in the spring of 2026.
