Obituary: Gerard Joseph Beliveau

Gerard Joseph Beliveau, age 85 years, a longtime resident of Winooski and more recently of Swanton, died early Tuesday afternoon April 15, 2014, in the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with family at his side.

Born in Quebec, Canada on June 13, 1928, he was the son of the late Eli and Angelina (LeClerce) Beliveau. He was raised in the Waltham, VT area attending both Waltham Elementary and Vergennes High Schools. He was married to the former Dorothy Crandall who predeceased him on February 2, 2010.

Gerard began working as a young man on his family’s dairy farm and continued over the years at various farms including at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY as well as at the former St. Michael’s Farm in Colchester. Prior to his illness he worked 23 years in maintenance at the University of Vermont. He will be remembered as an avid Ford enthusiast.

Gerard leaves his daughter, Angeline Tremblay and her husband Daniel of Swanton; a granddaughter, Angel Tremblay and a great grandson, Cayson Baker; stepchildren, Raymond Knapp of Poughkeepsie, NY and Mary Thompson of Newport, ME; step grandchildren, Dianna Knapp, Georgianna Knapp and Hilda Owen. Also surviving is his Goddaughter and favorite niece, Catherine Peacock of S. Burlington as well as several step grandchildren and additional nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, and his wife Dorothy, Gerard was predeceased by a sister, Laurette Dubois and brothers, Maurice, Armand, Roland and Marcel Beliveau.

In keeping with Gerard’s wishes funeral services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will no calling hours
