Mowgli Giannitti, Venetian Cocktail & Soda Lounge in Burlington, Sunday, March 8: After an early evening rehearsal on Sunday, I figured some jazz piano and a few pretzel sticks would be a perfect alternative to a late dinner at home. So I headed to the recently revamped Venetian Cocktail & Soda Lounge to catch the weekly solo-piano residency of Burlington’s Mowgli Giannitti. I knew Giannitti only as the bassist and front person of the eclectic 12-piece band Satyrdagg, and it’s safe to say I wildly underestimated the experience I was about to have. Not only is Giannitti a brilliant composer, but he can also write, sing, play piano and do justice to a variety of unlikely covers. As I devoured the best hot dog of my life, I caught him crooning to Erroll Garner’s “Misty” and Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California.” It was so earwormy that, upon getting home, I immediately had to play Side 2 of Led Zeppelin IV.
