You indie record store kids have undoubtedly already digested the new Comets on Fire album, Avatar. I think it’s pretty bitchin.’  Some of it even reminds me of Secret Treaties-era Blue Oyster Cult.

A few tracks are throwbacks to ’72, but they’re convincing nonetheless. Others point to a new future for song-based, electric psych.

  1. way ahead of you casey ;)your right this album is great – i think i may actually like it more than their last – it’s got a sweet earthyness to it; a bit more south blues maybe – either way, another great chasney outing… everything that guy touches is gold in my book.

  2. Hippies love Built to Spill. So do I.And at least Fishman can do Bonham some justice. But who’s that goofy guitarist?

  3. Oh, and if only Trey played with that much nut all the time. When he’s doing the Page licks note-for-note, he actually rocks. But once he starts in with Trey-isms in the outro, it’s all downhill. Not bad, though…
