Dear Reverend,

Is there a way to have a perfect life?

Paul Eyana (man, 25)

Dear Paul Eyana,

I’m going to let you in on a little secret: Nothing is perfect.

The only way to have a “perfect” life is to let go of the idea that such a thing exists. No matter what outward appearances may be, no one leads an existence of only ups and no downs. Even Beyoncé has baloney to battle with, ya dig?

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t aim for getting everything you want out of life, but you need to figure out how to be happy along the way.

To do that, one of the most important tools to have is a sense of humor. Life can really throw some shit at you. Being able to laugh in the face of adversity makes it much easier to get through.

You also need to take care of your body and mind. You don’t have to be crazy about it, but move yourself around once in a while. Go out for a walk. Ride a bike. Do some meditation, and be sure to get enough rest. Whatever happens, don’t freak out. Stress is a killer.

It’s also very important not to compare yourself to others. There will always be someone smarter, richer and more handsome than you. Be grateful for what you have. Remember that at any given moment, someone out there is wishing to have a life as “perfect” as yours is right now.

Good luck and God bless,

The Reverend
