Getting ready to head into the office. (Hint: click the 7″ covers).
Not much local music news this week — if you’re a regular reader and you have tall tales, feel free to send them along to: casey@sevendaysvt.com. Doesn’t everybody wanna see their name in print?
Casey’s Geek Corner.
I just updated my Pro Tools system to LE 6.9. Mac OS 10.4 Tiger should be in today, at which point I need to install PT 6.9.2. Yippee.
Does anyone know if Tiger comes with any kind of word processor?
OK. Enough of that.
This rain sucks. I might go to Nectar’s tonight to catch Maddub, a central VT dub band that folks are talkin’ about.
One of the dudes plays a Chapman Stick!
I had one of those, but I sold it to buy some sweet studio monitors.
What was I gonna do with a stick, anyway? There’s already a Tony Levin. And I could never grow a moustache like his.
Wish I was cool like those Candlebloggers and had fun links to post.
No time, no time.

Fred, who owns Buch Spieler, also plays in Maddub. I think he plays keys. I’ll be curious to hear what you think of them.
Turns out I won’t be going to Maddub — Grace Potter show needs me.What kind of local music journalist would I be if i weren’t there?
didnt stanley jordan play a chapman stick?awesome…..those things are expensive.good to hear you are getting Tiger. there are some nice features in Tiger.apple does have their own word processing program that i like quite a bit. its called ‘Pages’. cross compatible with ms word, etc….its part of the iWork suite – http://www.apple.com/iwork/ i think you have to buy it…..so no, it doesnt come with Tiger. why doesnt pro tools let people use their program with other hardware? (besides digi stuff and now, m-audio).i would love to use the program but dont want to be limited to a smaller number of hardware interfaces…..oh well.-gd
Don’t get me started on PT compatability.Since a great deal of what I’ve been up to lately are mixes for other groups, I’m sticking with the platform I’m used to. From plug-ins to edits, I’m simply most familiar with the PT architechture. That having been said, I’m reviewing this new piece of gear called GURU, and it was a nightmare to get it to effectively communicate with the host. Hence the rush to upgrade.Back before Digidesign bought M-Audio, you couldn’t even ReWire Reason without a special hack. It was ridiculous — the two most popular industry standard programs couldn’t communicate.Even cheap to free programs like Cakewalk and Cool Edt had more cross-platform compatability. And Pro Tools has always been a notorious ball-hog. They finally reonciled the audio driver conflict with Apple just this year. Mac is the most common host system for PT, and the one they do all their testing on. How is this possible?Anyway, I guess you just gotta stick with what you know. You know what else pisses me off? There’s a Live 5, and I never finished getting the hang of 4.As Pooh Bear said, “Oh, bother.”
