Monica Kaigle, also known as “Spin” to many of her friends, knows Burlington. And at almost 89 years old, she is still difficult to keep up with. We talked to Monica about her parents, who both worked in mills in Winooski; her family of eight; and her memories of the Queen City back in the days when porch-sitting was a sport. We visited Monica’s home on Booth Street, where she has lived for about 60 years, and stopped by the Heritage Winooski Mill Museum in Winooski to hear about Monica’s memories of the mills.

Have raised a glass before with this gem of Burlington; what a gal, what a life. Thanks for this fun piece on her life and how Burlington once was.
*I’m curious what she told you off camera, one can only imagine!
Thanks so much Tim, Monica is a gem of BTV, well said. And you know the off camera tid bits are always the best… 😛
I remember Monica and Jerry Kaigle from the Guards. My Dad, John Barr and Jerry worked together. Used to have so much fun at conferences and fancy balls. Monica has always been the life of the party. Such a great woman. And which story did she tell you? Because, there are many!!!
Love Spin’s spunk! Great walk thru BTV’s past. Thanks Eva!
I remember the Kaigle’s from childhood! Booth Street was the Fitzgerald’s, the Gadue’s, the Dorey’s, the Kaigle’s and the Rowell’s. I remember Allison, Kelly and Paul. How awesome that Mrs. Kaigle still lives there! I lived right around the corner, across from Pomeroy Park, where we used to ice skate until our feet turned blue!! So nice to see this blast from the past. Best to you, Mrs. Kaigle!
Thanks everyone for sharing some of your memories of Spin and Burlington! So much rich history here, it’s a pleasure to learn about.
Wonderful, quality piece of Burlington….that is why Seven Days is the best!
