South Burlington’s Mirabelles Bakery will take over the full-service Kitchen Table restaurant at 1840 West Main Street in Richmond and the recently opened Kitchen Table Market and Café at 1160 Williston Road in South Burlington, according to Mirabelles co-owner Jake Kent. Mirabelles will continue to operate its existing takeout bakery at 3060 Williston Road. Kent, 39, said he expects the two new locations to open under some version of the Mirabelles name by the end of September.
According to Kent, the Kitchen Table restaurant and café were to close permanently on August 3. The Kitchen Table’s behind-the-scenes ownership group will continue to own the Richmond restaurant building and lease it to Mirabelles. Mirabelles will take over the Kitchen Table Market & Café space under a new lease with that building’s landlord.
Since 2022, the Kitchen Table group has also owned Chicken Charlie’s Rotisserie, Grill & BBQ at 1160 Williston Road, which went on an indefinite hiatus in May after losing some space to the neighboring Kitchen Table Market & Café late last year. The future of both brands is unclear. Chef Craig Anthony, the group’s director of operations, did not respond to a request for comment.
Kent and his wife, Alexandria, bought the then-34-year-old Mirabelles from chef-founders Alison Lane and Andrew Silva in 2024, four years after the bakery moved from downtown Burlington to South Burlington and became takeout only. The Kents hired seasoned pastry chef Rachel Cemprola on Lane and Silva’s advice. Cemprola, 36, is now Mirabelles’ executive chef and “will be leading the way on all things food” in the expansion, Kent said. “We would not be able to do this without her skill set and talents.”
For Richmond, Cemprola will hire a chef to run the savory side of the kitchen, which will start by offering dinner Wednesday through Sunday and weekend brunch, with lunch to come later. The restaurant, most likely named ’Belles on the River, will serve what Cemprola described as an “elevated casual” menu. Brunch will include some Mirabelles café classics, such as popovers and hash browns.
Mirabelles new South Burlington market will increase availability of the savory prepared foods that have been available farther down Williston Road, such as chicken pot pies, enchilada bakes and sandwiches. That fare, along with coffee drinks, pastries and desserts, will be sold Monday through Saturday with a focus on takeout.
Meanwhile, Kent confirmed that the building in which Mirabelles currently operates has been bought by Beta Technologies for a planned campus expansion. The future of that location is uncertain.
