After a successful run of preorder deliveries and pop-ups in Waterbury last fall and winter, Jessica Palmer-Gwaltney and Dan Gwaltney will expand North Country Donuts from its Morrisville bakery base to a second location in Waterbury Center. The couple hopes to open at 2653 Waterbury-Stowe Road by July 4.
The small spot has been Giancarlo’s Panini Press for almost two years, but before that, it was a Dunkin’ Donuts with a drive-through service window. “It’s full circle,” Gwaltney, 45, said.
The new outpost will offer North Country Donuts’ wide range of freshly fried classic and creative doughnuts, from maple-bacon brioche to orange-glazed vanilla cake, with gluten-free and vegan options. It will have an expanded drink menu of coffee, tea and cold drinks and serve creemees and doughnut creemee sandwiches from the counter inside or the drive-through, Gwaltney said.
When the Waterbury Center location opens, customers will be able to place preorders for pickup there. North Country Donuts will continue to do some events in Waterbury. At a wine-and-doughnut pairing at Cask & Cork on Friday, May 22, from 4 to 7 p.m., for instance, attendees will be able to sample pairings such as dark chocolate-sea salt-ricotta-filled doughnuts and pinot noir.
