Sandra Tan opened T & M Asian Market at 40 Taft Corners Shopping Center in Williston on September 7. She told Seven Days she aims to bring fresh specialty vegetables, packaged ingredients from Asia and prepared Chinese takeout foods to the area. The latter include roasted duck and dim sum from Boston.
Tan noted that a recent construction boom has added several residential buildings and hotels near her new store. “We need more Asian culture in this neighborhood,” she said.
The market’s name combines the initials of her surname and that of her 21-year-old son, Alvin Ma, who helps her run the store.

Shelves hold a variety of condiments, such as Korean hot pepper paste and pickled ginger, ramen noodle packets, and candy. A cooler is stocked with mustard greens, daikon root and bunched cilantro, while freezers offer dumplings, microwaveable mango sticky rice and cuttlefish.
The store took over the former home of the Williston location of Shelburne Meat & Fish Market near several resale shops, including Once Upon a Child. Tan said she hopes families who shop there might also visit T & M Asian Market. In anticipation, she also carries some nonedible merchandise related to the popular Labubu doll line.
