Pursuant to Title 24 VSA, Chapter 113, Section 105-109 of the Colchester Charter, and Section 1-4 of the Colchester Code of Ordinances, the Colchester Selectboard will hold a public hearing on July 14, 2026 at 6:30 PM for public comment on amendments to Chapter 9: Offenses and Miscellaneous Provisions, Chapter 12: Traffic, and Chapter 13: Streets and Sidewalks of the Code of Ordinances.
A summary of the proposed amendments to Chapters 9, 12, and 13 are as follows: provisions to prohibit class 3 electric bicycles from traveling on sidewalks and multi use paths in Colchester, and inclusion of language to align with existing state statute that expressly lists where electric bicycles, motor-assisted bicycles, and motor-driven cycles are allowed to operate in Colchester.
The hearing is currently scheduled to take place at the Town of Colchester Town Offices, 781 Blakely Road, Colchester, Vermont, in the Outer Bay Conference Room on the third floor. Alternatively, you can email comments to TownManager@colchestervt.gov with “Citizens to be Heard – Electric Bicycle Ordinance” in the Subject and include your name. As with in-person Citizens to be Heard, we ask that you SHARE YOUR ADDRESS. The email will be shared with the entire Selectboard prior to the meeting and included in the information packet at the next meeting.
