The residents of the Town of Essex are hereby notified and warned to meet in-person and remotely at the Essex town offices, 81 Main St., Essex Junction, VT on Monday, November 2, 2026 at 6:30 P.M. for an informational meeting to hear and discuss proposed assessments of a one percent (1%) local option sales tax, and a one percent (1%) local option rooms tax, to be collected and administered by the Vermont Department of Taxes.

Following the completion of the public hearing, the legal voters of the Town of Essex in the county of Chittenden are hereby notified and warned to meet at Essex Middle School, 60 Founders Road, Essex, Vermont on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to transact the following business by Australian Ballot at a special town meeting. The polls for said ballot shall be open from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM at which time they shall be closed.
Question 1. Shall the Town assess a one percent (1%) tax on retail sales, pursuant to 24 V.S.A 138(B), with fifty percent (50%) of process of such sales tax being dedicated exclusively to offset Town municipal property tax rates?
Question 2: Shall the Town assess a one percent (1%) tax on meals and alcoholic beverages, pursuant to the 24 V.S.A 138(b), with fifty percent (50%) of proceeds of such sales tax being dedicated exclusively to offset Town municipal property tax rates?
Question 3: Shall the Town assess a one percent (1%) tax on rooms, pursuant to 24 V.S.A. 138(b), with fifty percent (50%) of proceeds of such sales tax being dedicated exclusively to offset Town municipal property tax rates?
The legal voters of the Town of Essex are further notified that voter qualification, registration and absentee voting relative to said special meeting shall be in accordance with the Vermont Statutes Annotated.
