David Carwin Bowers Jr. died on July 29, 2026, in Grand Isle, Vt., at the home of his daughter and under the care of University of Vermont Home Health & Hospice.
Dave was born in Philadelphia in 1940, the only child of Bessie Wright and David C. Bowers, who both preceded him. He started work for IBM in Philadelphia at the age of 18, repairing typewriters and wiring machines. He learned on the job and moved up in the company over his 30-year career, which included a move to Vermont in the late 1960s and working as a senior engineer and then team leader before retiring.
After retiring from IBM, he followed many other adventures, including serving as an engineer for the City of Winooski and traveling the country in his camper-van with his beloved dog and ferret. A favorite memory was his time performing with the Lamoille County Players in the 1990s. He was a member of St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in Williston.
He is survived by his beloved “little red dog,” Minion; and his children, Catherine Bowers (Thomas Brooks) of Downington, Pa., Linda Wheeler (Ian) of Essex Junction, Deborah Lang (Robert Jones) of Grand Isle and David Bowers III (Joanne Single) of Colchester; as well as eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family thanks Jean Osborne, Kristin Watson and Ginette Gosselin for their excellent care over the past year. A funeral service via St. Timothy’s Church is open to the public on August 25, 2026, 11 a.m., at the Church of the Nazarene on Route 2A in Williston. Voluntary donations can be sent to Pawsitive Pantry (pawsitivepantry.org). The funeral home is Elmwood-Meunier of Burlington.
