Donald “Hot Dog” Bourque, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Colchester on the shores of Lake Champlain, surrounded by the people he loved most.
Affectionately known to family and friends as “Hot Dog,” Don lived life with a spirit that was larger than life itself. A successful entrepreneur, he rose from humble and often challenging beginnings to build a thriving business, Best Bingo Supplies, founded on trust, hard work, integrity and the relationships he cultivated along the way. His success was measured not only by what he achieved, but by the respect, loyalty and admiration he earned from those who knew him.
Don was a fun-loving, free-spirited soul who could light up any room. With his contagious laugh, quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor, he had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and at ease. Whether you were a lifelong friend, a family member or someone he had just met, Don treated you with warmth, kindness and genuine interest.
His greatest joy was spending time at his beloved home, fondly known as “Camp.” Camp was more than a place — it was the heart of countless memories. It was where bonfires burned late into the night, lobster boils and clambakes brought people together, and music echoed across the water. Friends and family will forever remember his famous porch fries, shared generously with anyone lucky enough to stop by.
Don’s kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness and empathy were second to none. He gave freely of his time, his heart and his home. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, a loyal friend and a deeply caring man whose presence made life brighter for so many.
Don was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Kimberly Bourque; his brothers, Richard and James Bourque; his lifelong best friend, Ronald “Bobo” Brownell; and his dear friend Betty Day.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Brenna Gonyo and her husband, Matt, and Michelle Blotsky and her husband, Brian; his devoted sister, Joan Frey; and stepchildren Dawn, James and Rick Fitzgerald and Kevin Lilley. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren/step-grandchildren, Tyler Herd; Emma and Lily Gonyo; Kayla, Jake and Kelsey Snider; Sarah, Matthew and Joseph Blotsky; Will, Hayden, Stephanie and Katie Fitzgerald; Heath and Haley Walker; and Michaela Fuller; great-grandchildren, Sky, Wesley, Kip, Jade, Lucas, Kenzie, Logan, Stevie and Taylor; niece and nephew, Tracey Robinson and Steve Gardner; Luis Betancourt, whom he loved like a son, and girlfriend, Nancy Langan.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the memories he created, the lives he touched and the love he shared will endure forever. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered and always loved.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the F.O. Milton Eagles Club.
