Edward E. “Ed” Stygles, 92, of Jericho, Vt., passed away peacefully at the University of Vermont Medical Center on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Born in Burlington, Vt., on August 16, 1934, Ed was the son of Everett and Marjorie (LaCasse) Stygles. A proud fifth-generation Vermonter, he grew up in a farming family and learned the value of hard work at an early age. He lived a long life filled with farming, family and friends.

Ed married the love of his life, Jane (Jones) Stygles, and together they built a life in Jericho rooted in family and hard work. For many years, they worked side by side as dairy farmers, operating a farm of approximately 270 acres. Ed often credited Jane for much of their success. Together they raised their two sons, Kenneth “Kenny” and Raymond Stygles, and created a home filled with family and memories.

Ed was a familiar face throughout Jericho and the surrounding communities. Known for his strong opinions and determination, he was never one to shy away from a conversation or a good deal. Although he could be stubborn about accepting help himself, he was always willing to lend a hand to others. He served as Jericho’s town constable for many years and helped countless neighbors and community members along the way. His generosity and willingness to help others were a lasting part of his presence in the community.

For decades, Ed was a familiar voice on local radio, calling WOKO’s “Sunday Flea Market” each week and participating in WDEV’s “The Trading Post.” He also frequented local field days, enjoying the farming equipment, familiar faces, and chance to catch up or make a deal. Affectionately known as “Eddy” to the ladies, he had a sense of humor and personality all his own.

Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane; son Kenneth “Kenny” Stygles; parents, Everett and Marjorie Stygles; sisters, Beverly (Stygles) Ward and Shirley (Stygles) Davis; and brother Carroll Stygles Sr.

He leaves behind his son Raymond (Kimberly) Stygles and brothers David (Kathy) Stygles, Dickey (Hellen) Stygles and Billy (Karen) Stygles. He is also survived by his grandchildren through Raymond: Elizabeth (Gary) Mumley, Shayna Stygles, Brooke (Dustin) Francis, Trisha Stygles, Christian Stygles and Steevie Stygles; and by the children of his son Kenny: Ken (Darla) Stygles and Dylan (Alanna) Stygles.

Ed was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, leaving behind 13 great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for the years he devoted to farming, the life he built with Jane, the family they raised, and the many friends and neighbors he came to know. His family will carry on the stories and memories of a life well lived.

A private burial will take place in the spring or summer of 2027.
