Jean Chamberlain passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on January 14, 2026. She was the daughter of Fred Slater and Annie Metcalf-Slater, born on March 24, 1940, along with her sister, Joyce Jenny, who passed away shortly after birth. Another sister, Pauline, passed of a brain tumor in 1990. Her father passed away when she was 3 years old as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Jean was born in Underhill Center and lived in Underhill and Jericho her whole life. She loved gardening, cooking and spending time with her loved ones. She especially enjoyed family dinners. She was married to Peter for 58 years until his death in 2018. They had a wonderful life together, full of love and hard work. They never took vacations but chose to stay home on Raceway Road, watching all the wild animals that would show up in their backyard.
Jean was employed at Browns River Middle School for 35 years as a head cook. After retiring for one year, she went back to work at Thomas Fleming School for 16 years, finally retiring in 2019 after the passing of her beloved husband.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael and his wife, Kathleen, and their three sons, Sean, Luke and Owen; and Jeff and his wife, Cheryl, and their two children, Josh and Calsie; as well as her great-grandson, Hudson; a special granddaughter, Kyla Morgan; great-grandson Jaydn, and great-granddaughter Izadora. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A big thank you goes out to Jeff Williams, Paul Dunkling, Tony Bellomo, Dean Davis and the late Cindi Davis for their help throughout the years.
Calling hours will be held on June 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home in Essex Junction. Reception to follow.
